The amount of boron, ceramic and marble transported by the Republic of Turkey Devlet Demiryolları Taşımacılık AŞ (TCDD Taşımacılık AŞ) in the January-April period increased significantly compared to the same period of the previous year.

According to the information obtained from the General Directorate of TCDD Taşımacılık AŞ, in contrast to the contraction in other areas of transportation during the new type of coronavirus (Kovid-19) epidemic, both the type of product and the amount transported increased in rail freight transportation.

In the January-April period of this year, there was an increase of 24.8 percent in domestic rail transportation and 19.8 percent in international transportation compared to the same period of the previous year, while the increase in the transportation of the mining and ceramics industry by rail was also remarkable.

The amount of boron transported increased by 369 percent, and the number of wagons transported from boron mines increased by 4 percent in the first 371 months of this year compared to the same period last year, from 824 to 8.

In the same period, the amount of products transported increased by 369 percent, from 95 thousand 463 tons to 447 thousand 622 tons. In the last year, 7 thousand 945 tons of boron mines were transported with 418 thousand 346 wagons.

Boron can be transported from Turkey to China by rail in just 2 weeks

On the other hand, important developments took place in the first 4 months of the year in the transportation of boron to China, one of the most important economies of the world, by rail.

A total of 31 wagons, 2021 tons of boron, 27 kilometers, of which 400 tons with 11 wagons on January 2021, 48, and 343 tons with 75 wagons on April 2, 743.

The export, which was carried out by sea between 2 continents, 2 seas and 5 countries, between 45 and 60 days, was completed in 15-20 days by rail.

Considering that boron is one of the most important items in Turkey's mining exports and the country maintains its leadership in the world boron industry with 2020 million tons of sales in 1,73, it is of great importance that Turkey, which meets 57 percent of the global demand, shifts its boron transport to railways.

Exports from many points of the country through Baku-Tbilisi-Kars and the Middle Corridor are expected to increase further in the coming years.

The Amount of Ceramics and Marble Transported by Railway Has Also Increased

The number of wagons transporting ceramic by rail increased by 95,3 percent on an annual basis in the January-April period, and rose from 133 to 2. During this period, the amount of ceramic transported increased by 213 percent, reaching 137 tons from 46 thousand 927 tons. In the last year, 111 thousand 280 tons of ceramic products were transported with 3 thousand 419 wagons.

During the period in question, the number of wagons used in marble transportation increased from 2 to 300, and the amount of products increased from 3 tons to 819 tons. Thus, the amount of marble transported by rail in the first 115 months of the year increased by 11 percent.
