Beşiktaş Removes the Bridge on the Coast within the Scope of IMM Square Arrangement

IMM organizes overpasses and squares in Beşiktaş, one of the areas where urban traffic is felt the most. Work will take 40 days in six stages.

Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) started its works in Beşiktaş, one of the busiest areas of the city, in line with the "Temporary Traffic Circulation" decision taken on January 14th. IMM, which will make the overpass and square arrangement in the district, went down to the field yesterday and rolled up its sleeves. The project, which will take 40 days, will be carried out in stages consisting of a total of six parts.

THE FIELD OF THE SQUARE IS GROWING

IMM Deputy Secretary General Arif Gürkan Alpay said that the work started with the demolition of the connection road on Barbaros Boulevard can be summarized in three stages and noted that the area in Beşiktaş Square will grow as a result of the regulations. Alpay continued his words as follows: “We are currently removing the existing bridge. With the Meydan project, we take the IETT buses up. In the last stage, after the square project is completed, we make the area where the subway construction site is square and integrate the area with Beşiktaş Square. "

OCCUPATION IS ENDED

The bridge, which is generally used as a parking lot by the local tradesmen on Barbaros Boulevard, was also seen as one of the factors that negatively affected the visuality in the region. Providing information about the works, Beşiktaş Mayor Rıza Akpolat explained the occupation problem in the region with the following words: “The places where the occupations occurred have been removed. There was too much cafe occupation here, there was a sidewalk occupation. Now these have been removed and after this bridge is removed, our citizens who descend from Barbaros Boulevard will be able to see the sea directly.

A SOLUTION IS COMING TO REGIONAL TRAFFIC

The bridge on Barbaros Boulevard, one of the busiest places in the district, had a negative impact on vehicle traffic in the region, especially on weekends. The vehicles parked on the bridge were seen as one of the most important factors increasing the traffic in the district. In addition to the citizens' own vehicles, buses and trucks were also using the bridge as a parking area.

SQUARE MEETS THE SEA

Within the scope of the arrangement to be made in Beşiktaş Square, public transportation stops in the region will also be moved to another region. Thus, it will be easier for citizens to reach the sea from the square. Saying that the works carried out will not prevent land and sea transportation in the district, IMM Transportation Department Head Utku Cihan explained the effect of the work done as follows:

First of all, we take the bus stops by the coast to Barbaros Boulevard, where our buses and minibuses go to Levent direction, so we empty the square and the seaside. We divide the area primarily for pedestrians; but we organize a walking route without breaking the ferry-bus connection.

GREEN AREAS ARE GROWING

Within the scope of the project, the area covered by the green areas in Beşiktaş Square will also expand. Stating that they want to bring green to the fore in the region, IMM Park Garden and Green Areas Department Head Prof. Dr. Age

Çağatay Seçkin summarized the work done as follows:

Here, we are trying to create areas that emphasize green as much as possible, where people can calmly experience the sea in the shade and enjoy Istanbul. Naturally, there will be a serious green contribution in this area.
