Free internet service to Başkent squares, announced by Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mansur Yavaş saying “We believe that the right to access the internet is a fundamental human right”, is becoming widespread day by day. With the addition of Ankara Castle, Hacı Bayram Veli Mosque and Bahçelievler Adnan Ötüken Park, the number of squares with free wi-fi reached 27, and 70 percent of the first phase of the project has been completed.

Ankara Metropolitan Municipality, which provides free Wi-Fi service in 918 neighborhoods for the benefit of students who receive distance education in order to ensure equal opportunity in education during the pandemic process, started to expand this service to city squares.

In the first phase of the project, which was implemented by Ankara Metropolitan Mayor Mansur Yavaş saying “We believe that the right to access the Internet is a fundamental human right”, the work planned to be carried out in 35 squares of the city is progressing rapidly.

With the addition of Ankara Castle, Hacı Bayram Veli Mosque and Bahçelievler Adnan Ötüken Park, the number of squares in Başkent where free wi-fi service is provided has increased to 27.

1,9 MILLION SQUARE METERS MET WITH THE INTERNET

While the project, in which it is planned to provide free internet to a total area of ​​10 million square meters in different parts of Ankara, is becoming more widespread day by day, 1 million 900 thousand square meters of area have been brought together with free internet in the studies carried out by the Information Technology Department.

While the squares activated through the address "wifi.ankara.bel.tr" were displayed one by one, the free 1st Stage Wi-Fi points (PHASE1), which were commissioned within the scope of the service that brings citizens together with fast, safe and free internet, were as follows:

While it is aimed to provide internet access in a short time in the squares that are within the scope of the free Wi-Fi application to the central and district squares, the 70 points that make up 1 percent of Phase 30, 8 percent of which have been completed, are:

"Kızılay Square, Güvenpark, Beşevler University District, Batıkent Square, Etimesgut Train Station, Rainbow Road, Sincan Lale Square and Çayırhan City Square."

In the second phase (PHASE5,2) of 2 million square meters of the works, which can be followed at the address "wifi.ankara.bel.tr", 2 more points, primarily parks and recreation areas, will receive free Wi-Fi service. Within the scope of the project, it is aimed that citizens will be able to use the internet for free at 30 points in the square and recreation areas throughout the city until the end of the year.
