TOWARDS THE END OF PHASE 2

Ministers, Akar and Varank, first visited the Good Clinical Practice and Research Center (IKUM) at Erciyes University, where phase studies of the vaccine candidate developed against the new type of coronavirus (Kovid-19) were conducted. IKUM Director Assoc. Dr. Zafer Sezer informed both Ministers about the work carried out.

NEW VACCINE CENTER

Ministers also visited the Vaccine Research and Development Application and Research Center. Rector Prof. Dr. Mustafa Çalış and Center Director Prof. Dr. Aykut Özdarendeli informed the ministers about the domestic vaccine candidate. Ministers Akar and Varank also examined the new vaccine development center under construction on the Erciyes University campus.

The ministers then went to the Erciyes Technopark and received information from the authorities about the scientific studies carried out there. It was learned that there are 255 R&D companies in the technopark and the activities are continuing with a 98 percent occupancy rate. MECHANICAL INCUBATION CENTER

The ministers were informed that the Mechanical Incubation Center in the Technopark was built with the support of the Ministry of Industry and Technology. It was noted that the first stage of the incubation center, which consists of 8 hangars, was put into service in October 2020 and reached 2 percent occupancy in 100 months. The second stage of the Mechanical Incubation Center, which will consist of 16 hangars, is planned to be completed and put into service in July 2021.

DOMESTIC BIOREACTOR

The two ministers then inspected the Valentis Biotechnology company's bioreactor production facility in the technopark. Bioreactors used in vaccine, medicine and food production are completely imported. A bioreactor with a volume of 2 liters, developed by the company, was introduced to the two ministers. It was informed that the bioreactor, which was manufactured and tested last year, successfully produces the desired biological materials.

300 LITER VERSION IS IN THE TEST PHASE

In the second phase of the project, it was explained that a real-scale bioreactor with a capacity of 300 liters was designed and manufactured, and that the bioreactor is still being tested and improved.
