A new rail shipping line connecting the central Chinese province of Hunan with ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) countries went live on Wednesday, March 31st. A train loaded with industrial products such as silicon dioxide and milled iron bars departed from Changsa, the capital of Hunan, on Wednesday morning. The train will pass through Guangxi's Autonomous Zhuang District in southern China and arrive in Vietnam's capital Hanoi in about seven days.

China Railway Guangzhou Group Co., Ltd stated that this line will run once a week, following a trial period of three months. The railway line in question will further stimulate trade between Hunan and ASEAN countries. The total number of ASEAN countries is China's number one trading partner as of 2020. According to the 2020 data of the Changsa customs administration, the total trade volume between Hunan and ASEAN's 10 countries reached 81,03 billion yuan (about $ 12,35 billion) this year. This amount corresponds to an increase of 30,9 percent compared to a year ago, on the one hand, and accounts for 16,6 percent of Hunan's total foreign trade.

Based on available data, the volume of trade between Hunan and ASEAN increased by 86,3 percent in the first two months of this year compared to the same period a year ago, reaching 10,15 billion yuan.
