Dozens of ships are in some port and others are in the open. All are waiting ready. They have only one task, evacuating hundreds of thousands of Istanbulites in a possible earthquake. The evacuation plan is an important part of the earthquake action plan. All preparations for a 16 million mega-city were made for a 7,5 magnitude earthquake.
Under the coordination of our Ministry, a very detailed earthquake action plan was prepared with the Istanbul Governorship, Provincial Gendarmerie Command, AFAD and other public institutions. There are striking details in this plan that TRT Haber has reached.
Plan Ready for 7,5 Magnitude Earthquake for Istanbul
The evacuation of earthquake victims who want to leave the city is planned. All preparations for this are okay.
Speaking about the prepared plan, Gendarmerie Colonel Metin Günal said, "The victims who want to go to the support provinces or their countries will be transferred to the evacuation areas determined to be evacuated by sea, air, land and railway vehicles,"
There are a total of 23 evacuation areas in Istanbul. Ships are ready for the evacuation by sea.
City lines ferries, sea buses, boats and ships belonging to the coastal security and sea vehicles affiliated to the Coast Guard Command will also be used to evacuate earthquake victims.
Sea Evacuation Points
6 points were determined for evacuations from the sea. Citizens will be transported to these points by vehicles, then they will be taken out of Istanbul by ships.
For the islands, a pier and 5 capping areas were determined. These are Sirkeci Ferry Pier, Yenikapı Sea Bus Terminal, Pendik Fast Ferry Pier, İstinye Pier, Harem Ferry Pier and Zeytinburnu Zeyport Port Operations.
Railway Evacuation Points
However, the evacuation will not only be from the sea. 3 evacuation points were determined in order to take Istanbul residents out of the city by rail. These, Yeşilköy, Halkalı and Tuzla Train Stations.
Road Evacuation Points
Highways will also play an important role in the evacuation process. Esenler, Alibeyköy, Samandıra and Harem Bus Terminals will be emergency exit terminals after the earthquake.
In the earthquake action plan where all the details are considered, the airway will also be used for evacuation. These will be Istanbul Airport, Atatürk Airport and Sabiha Gökçen Airport.
Priority for Disabled, Children and Elderly
Disabled citizens are at the top of the priority list for evacuation. Children, old people and women follow them.
Where will the persons to be evacuated from Istanbul be sent?
Supporting provinces were determined in two groups. In the first stage, earthquake victims will be evacuated to Balıkesir, Eskişehir, Ankara, Manisa, İzmir, Afyonkarahisar, Konya, Antalya, Denizli, Samsun and Kayseri. Those who wish will be sent to their homeland.
Earthquake victims can also be referred to Adana, Gaziantep, Malatya, Trabzon, Diyarbakır, Erzurum and Erzincan, which are determined as the second group of support provinces depending on the needs.
