Culture and Tourism Minister Mehmet Nuri Ersoy opened the lid of the 2-year-old sarcophagus tomb after the excavations carried out by the Bodrum Underwater Archeology Museum Directorate in Bodrum district.
Minister Ersoy examined the sarcophagus grave area, which was discovered during the foundation excavation of a construction in Yokuşbaşı Mahallesi Cevat Şakir Caddesi and excavated by the Bodrum Underwater Archeology Museum Directorate.
Minister Ersoy, who opened the cover of the 2-year-old tomb that emerged during the studies, received information from the authorities about the work carried out.
Making a statement after the cover of the sarcophagus was opened, Minister Ersoy said that the sarcophagus was discovered during the excavation carried out on 8 March. Stating that the top cover of the sarcophagus was opened with press members for the first time today, Minister Ersoy said, “There are skeletons of a man and a lady in the tomb. This is a place of 2 thousand 400 years old. It is thought that Halicarnassus, which belongs to the 4th century BC, was an eastern necropolis. What makes us happy is that it has never been spoiled. It was not damaged from nowhere and remained as it was buried. Its ingredients were also unaffected by any shocks. " used the expression.
Mentioning that they will temporarily close the region, Minister Ersoy stated that they will protect it from the sun by building a tent on it and that those inside will be removed gradually.
Unearthed Artifacts Will Be Exhibited In The Museum
Minister Ersoy pointed out that there were some items from the grave in the first place, but they believed that a lot would come out, “There is a lot here. It is thought to be under the mud. They will find all of these. It was good value. The excavation work is carried out by the Bodrum Underwater Archeology Museum. All artifacts unearthed from the tomb will be taken to the museum and displayed. he spoke.
