Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Adil Karaismailoğlu attended the "Equal Opportunity Goodwill and Cooperation Protocol" Signing Ceremony and Conversation program in Istanbul. Karaismailoğlu said, “We are realizing a good example of university-industry cooperation in terms of performing compulsory sea internships for our female students studying at our universities that provide education at undergraduate level. Starting his speech on the ship named after Nene Hatun by celebrating the 8th of March, International Women's Day, Minister Karaismailoğlu stated that they are witnessing a cooperation protocol today that will show the power of women in the seas.

Karaismailoğlu said, “We are realizing a good example of university-industry cooperation in terms of performing compulsory sea internships for our female students studying at our universities that provide education at undergraduate level. Within the scope of the protocol, the number of internship quotas in our twelve maritime companies was determined as 306. "With the protocol we signed today, we will contribute to the empowerment of women's position in business and social life, while providing the opportunity for our women to take more places in the maritime sector."

"Turkey has become a strong maritime country"

Emphasizing that increasing women's employment in the maritime sector is one of the most important goals, Minister Karaismailoğlu continued his statements as follows:

"Turkey today has become a strong maritime country where you will perform in your profession with pride and the most advanced technical facilities. The Turkish Owned Maritime Trade Fleet ranks 8,9th in the world with 17 giant tons, and rose to 2020th with 29,3 million tons in 15. While the amount of containers handled at our ports was 2,5 million TEU, it increased by 464 percent to 11,6 million TEU. We increased the amount of cargo handled at our ports from 190 million tons to 261 million 496 thousand tons with an increase of 642 percent. Foreign trade shipments realized by seaway increased from 149 million tons to 245 million with an increase of 365,4 percent. The number of vehicles transported on international regular Ro-Ro lines; While it was 2003 thousand in 220, it became 2020 million 229 in 504 with an increase of 752 percent. "

Minister Karaismailoğlu reminded that there are maritime faculties and colleges affiliated with YÖK, which currently provides 12 associate degree and 13 undergraduate education in the country; He stated that 829 students received education in these faculties and 750 students in vocational high schools.

Karaismailoğlu said, “The positive steps towards 'women's rights' in our country have increased exponentially during the period of our governments. Of the 101 women MPs in the Turkish Grand National Assembly, 54 are AK Party deputies. The rate of our women working in the public sector has increased to 39 percent. The proportion of women among faculty members at our universities exceeds 50 percent. While the number of women employed in our country in 2002 was 6 million 122 thousand, this number has increased to 9 million 18 thousand today. "The Women's Empowerment Strategy Document and Action Plan will expand the socio-economic rights, opportunities and opportunities of our women with the 2018-2023 Empowerment Strategy Document and Action Plan prepared by our government," he said.
