In the additional expert report prepared 3 years after the train accident in Çorlu, it was emphasized that the culverts on the railway were not sufficient and that the required number of road and gate control officers were not employed in the region.

According to the news of İsmail Saymaz from SÖZCÜ; “The additional expert report regarding the train accident in which 25 citizens died in Çorlu reached the court. In the report, it was determined that the culverts that provide water and air passage in the railway are sufficient and the hydraulic structures are not suitable for today's engineering service. It was also stated that the required number of road and gate control officers were not employed. In the additional report prepared by six experts on February 1, upon the request of the 26st High Criminal Court of Çorlu, “The capacities of the culverts and pipe crossings at the accident site are insufficient for the basin flow rates. In addition, it has been determined that the entrance of the pipe transitions are under the ground, so they do not work.

Engineering Not Good

It was emphasized that the hydraulic engineering structures and river bed arrangement on the route are not suitable for today's engineering service, including post-accident improvements. In this context, it was emphasized that the TCDD General Directorate R&D Unit, Central and 1st Regional Railway Safety and Risk Management directorates, which did not take precautions regarding extraordinary weather conditions in the railway infrastructure and art structures, and did not provide the necessary coordination with the meteorological situation, were inherently flawed.

It was stated that those who do not make the railway infrastructure suitable for renovations, and those who do not employ sufficient road and gate control officers are also at fault. In the first expert report, it was warned that there is a high probability of a new disaster at any time in the culverts that still exist on the railway in question. TCDD officials were also asked to take measures for this as soon as possible.

25 People Killed, 317 Injured, But No Single Responsible Found

In the accident that took place in Tekirdağ Çorlu on 8 July 2018, 5 wagons were overturned as a result of the sliding of the soil culvert under the rails due to rainfall. 25 people died in the accident, 317 people were injured. A lawsuit was filed against the authorities. However, it was decided that there was no need to prosecute the bureaucrats. Relatives of those who lost their lives started a "Justice Watch" in front of the courthouse. The request for the trial of the bureaucrats was rejected for the second time. Relatives of those who lost their lives filed a criminal complaint this time about the experts. Mısra Öz Sel, mother of Oğuz Arda Sel, who died in the accident, was fined for insulting the court board.

Comment

  1. It is wrong to select experts from outside the institution about the Çorlu train accident. Experts from within the institution provide healthy information… If the institution determines the causes of the accidents correctly, the repetition of the same error is easily prevented.
