Short Selling Measure in Stock Exchange: Upstream Rule Imposed

transactions in the stock market stopped again

Following the 100 percent loss of value in the BIST 10 index yesterday, a short selling measure came from Borsa Istanbul.

In the statement made to the Public Disclosure Platform (KAP), the following were recorded: “As it is known, short sales can be made on the stocks in the BIST-11.02.2021 Index in accordance with the decision of the Capital Markets Board dated 7 and numbered 211/50. It has been decided to apply the up-tick rule in short selling transactions to be valid for one day in the session dated 23.03.2021. Accordingly, for short-selling stocks, the short-selling transaction can be carried out at a price higher than the last transaction price of the capital market instrument that will be subject to short sale. However, if the last realized price of the capital market instrument subject to short sale is higher than the previous price, the short selling transaction can be made at the last realized price level. Since the sales made during the day without ownership and then closed with the purchases made on the same day are also within the scope of short selling, it is important to show the necessary care and attention to the forwarding of the orders for such sales by marking the short selling option by our investors and investment institutions.
