The construction of the Square Kilometer Array (SKA) telescope, which will be the largest in the world, will begin in July. Wu Xiangping, Chief of China's SKA Science Team, announced that 10 percent of the SKA will be completed and put into service by 2028, as a result of the full advance of the SKA project from the design phase to the implementation process.
SKA, an international project, will be built and managed with the partnership of more than 10 countries. China is one of seven founders and signatories of the convention on the SKA observatory signed in 2019. China's SKA team will conduct research in 10 areas. Wu stated that in 10 years, these will include research of cosmic ionization, detection / detection of pulsars, measurement of time, and gravitational theory test.
Wu, who is also a member of the Chinese People's Consultative Conference, said that China will determine its own scientific goals and its own route for astronomical research as part of the international cooperation to be formed within the framework of the SKA project and added that Chinese astronomers will contribute more to the exploration of the universe.
