The foundation of the airport, which will serve the Eastern Black Sea region between Rize and Artvin provinces, was laid by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan on April 3, 2017. The airport will have a capacity that 3 million passengers can use per year.

84 percent of the filling works have been completed

A total of 2,8 million tons of stone filling material will be used for the airport, which is built on an area of ​​2 million m100 to be gained from the sea. Within the scope of the Infrastructure Construction, which includes the runway, apron and flight units of the airport, an average of 3 thousand tons of rock filling material is transported to the field every day, with the trucks making an average of 100 thousand daily trips. Until now, 84 percent of the filling works have been completed.

Overall realization rate reached 70 percent

Within the scope of superstructure facilities including the Terminal Building and all support buildings, 95 percent of the rough construction and 55 percent of the steel construction works have been completed. When all the works of the airport are included, the overall realization rate reached 70 percent. It is aimed to complete the project by the end of the year by continuing the construction work at the airport, where domestic and international flights can be made.
