Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) started "40 thousand tablets distribution" in order to contribute to eliminating the inequalities created by the pandemic period in the field of education and to be with the students. Speaking before the distribution at Edirnekapı Social Services Unit, IMM President Ekrem İmamoğluStating that the pandemic has also accelerated the impoverishment process in different parts of the society, he emphasized that housewives and children are at the forefront of the segments most affected by this process. İmamoğlu said, “Our children receive education with the EBA system. There are those who have the opportunity and those who do not. Unfortunately, we see that it is not possible to reach internet access in every part of Turkey. Istanbul is a big metropolis. Of course, many places and rural areas of Turkey are also victims. It can be thought that metropolitans may be more fortunate in terms of victimization. Unfortunately, both the poverty data and the traumas experienced by people in certain neighborhoods of our Istanbul, unemployment and poverty, also unfortunately caused the results that were reflected on our children and youth.”

"WE CONTRIBUTE TO THE VICTORY PROCESS"

Noting that citizens are aware of the need to contribute to the victimization process they are going through, İmamoğlu said, “Because the lesson is not always possible on television. In addition, we hear that there are young people who try to understand and listen to the lessons on their parents' phones ”. İmamoğlu exemplifies the criteria they consider while purchasing the tablets they will distribute, saying, “My friends also focused on other aspects of this. Unfortunately, Istanbul has even places that have not yet had an infrastructure and are not defined on some issues. Providing two kinds of access; instead, they decided that it would be a more efficient and accurate job based on location and need. One of them found it right to connect directly via Wi-Fi and the other via SIM card. Therefore, two kinds of tablets were taken. "Half of the 40 thousand tablets that we will start today will work with the Wi-Fi system, half with the sim card system."

"1700 TABLETS WILL BE GIVEN TO 2 FAMILIES"

Referring to the tender processes of the tablets, İmamoğlu stated that the distributions will be made directly to the families. Stating that the distributions will be carried out by the Social Services unit teams, İmamoğlu said, “Well, how will it be done? They will go to their homes or, at certain points, identified families will be invited and entrusted to their oil lamps. Well, to whom? Of course families in need. To families whose social examination has been made clearly, has been determined. We have all the determinations; I mean, we are not talking about a determination to be made after that, ”he said. Stating that 3 tablet will be distributed to families with up to 1 children, and 2 tablets to families with more children, İmamoğlu said, "Therefore, 1700 tablets will be given to 2 families".

"WE HAVE DETERMINED THE NEEDS FAIR AND TRANSPARENT"

Adding that the determination of needy families is carried out with a fair, transparent, and fully encompassing understanding of rights and law, İmamoğlu emphasized that their aim is to keep the equality of opportunity in the society alive. Underlining that as IMM is not an institution with budgets that will completely solve the education problem or produce solutions within this scope, İmamoğlu said, “However, in an environment where such an important deficiency is experienced, we have made all our sacrifices to make a great contribution, and we continue to be with our citizens of Istanbul. I would like to state that we will especially ”he said.

"WE ARE WITH YOU…"

Noting that the distributions are planned to be completed by the end of March and the beginning of April, İmamoğlu thanked all his teammates who contributed. Saying, “I would like to state that we stand by them in an environment that we anticipate that this process will continue, especially in this period of intense poverty,” said İmamoğlu, and said that the doors are open to future contributions from the citizens. Imamoglu said, "I hope that we will overcome these difficult days together, with great solidarity, devotion, transparency, with the right system, in the most correct way."
