IONIQ 45, inspired by PONY, Hyundai's first model that was introduced to the market exactly 5 years ago, brings a completely different breath to mobility in the automotive industry. One of the pioneers of the automotive world with the technologies it has developed and its serious investments in R&D, Hyundai has created a sub-brand under the name IONIQ in recent months to create awareness in EV models.

Hyundai Motor Company launches IONIQ 5 as a compact CUV, which it introduced with an online world premiere. IONIQ, which produces only battery-powered electric vehicles (BEV), uses Hyundai Motor Group's new platform E-GMP (Electric-Global Modular Platform). Built exclusively for BEV vehicles, this platform has unmatched proportions over an extended wheelbase. The platform, which stands out in terms of both the seating area and the placement of the batteries, is also produced using environmentally friendly materials. In addition, the IONIQ 2, which has an innovative interior design, ultra-fast charging and vehicle-to-vehicle connection (V5L), draws attention with its advanced connectivity and driving assistance features.

While the stylish design of the IONIQ 5 shows itself on a special BEV platform, it also establishes a great link between the past and the future. Having an extremely modern ambiance as well as traditional lines, the car is interpreted as a redefinition of timeless design.

The stylish exterior design of the IONIQ 5 allows the car to be as premium as it is modern. Introduced for the first time at the 2019 Frankfurt Motor Show under the name Hyundai 45 concept, this car has a new hood system for optimum aerodynamics. A flawless lighting technology is featured in IONIQ 5, along with this hooded hood that minimizes panel gaps and the horizontal front bumper. V-shaped daytime running lights (DRL) are also combined with headlights with small U-shaped pixels. Thus, at the front, an aesthetic wonder is obtained as much as a superior lighting technology.

Although a simple form draws attention on the side of the car, an advanced aerodynamicism is captured with the sharp line starting from the front door to the lower part of the rear door. This detail, which is a hard and sharp transition, is combined with hidden door handles and a clean surface. While the visuality comes to the fore, the friction coefficient has also been lowered to meet the requirements of an electric car.

Wheels developed for aerodynamics make Hyundai's Parametric Pixel design theme even more pronounced. This special set, which is the largest wheel Hyundai has ever used in an EV car, is offered in a full 20-inch diameter. Developed for both visuality and handling, this aesthetic rim is also optimized specifically for E-GMP.

The interior of IONIQ 5 also has the theme of "Functional Living Space". Along with the seats, the cockpit can move up to 140 mm. While a flat floor is provided for the batteries in the mobile interior, which is embodied as Universal Island, the width of the space can be adjusted according to the comfort of the users.

In addition, most of the interior equipment such as seats, headliners, door trims, floors and armrests are produced using environmentally friendly and sustainably sourced materials such as recycled PET bottles, plant-based (bio PET) yarns, natural wool yarns and ecological leather.

The IONIQ 5 offers up to 1.600 liters of loading space when the second row seats are fully folded down. By providing 531 liters of luggage space when the seats are fully upright, it offers a very ideal loading capacity for daily use. For added versatility, the second row seats can slide forward by up to 135mm and can also be folded in a 6: 4 ratio. Meanwhile, an additional luggage capacity of up to 57 liters is offered at the front of the vehicle.

An electric car for every user

The IONIQ 5 offers an electric car configuration to suit every customer's mobility needs without sacrificing performance. Users can choose between 58 kWh or 72,6 kWh battery pack options. In addition, they can choose between two electric motor options, with a rear motor only or with both a front and a rear motor. While achieving superior range in all option options, a top speed of 185 km / h can be achieved at the same time.

At the top of the electric motor option list is a power output of 225 kWh (301 hp) and 605 Nm of torque. While the IONIQ 5 is powered by a 72.6 kWh battery, it also offers the option of all-wheel drive (AWD). With these technical features, the car can accelerate from 0 to 100 km / h in 5,2 seconds.

The IONIQ 5 can reach an average range of 2-72,6 km (WLTP) with its two-wheel drive (470WD) and 480 kWh battery combination.

Innovative ultra fast charging

The IONIQ 5's E-GMP platform supports both 400 V and 800 V charging infrastructures. In addition to 400 V charging without the need for additional components or adapters, the platform also offers 800 V charging as standard.

The technological car can charge from 350 percent to 18 percent in just 10 minutes with a 80 kW charger. According to WLTP, IONIQ 5 users only need to charge the vehicle for five minutes to achieve a range of 100 km. This means a superior ease of use to its owner in crowded urban traffic.

IONIQ 5 owners can charge their electric bicycles, scooters or electric camping equipment with the V2L function whenever they want, or start them by plugging in instantly. The vehicle can also charge another electric car thanks to its powerful batteries in its system. Working with a kind of powerbank logic, the car does not fail to turn its own electricity into performance.

Mobility-based technological systems

Hyundai has turned the windshield into a giant screen for the first time in IONIQ 5. Produced with the "Augmented Reality Head-Up Display" (AR HUD), IONIQ 5 projects images related to navigation, driving aids, instant information and the vehicle's surroundings to the field of view in front of the windshield. It uses high-level AR technology during projection and ensures the transmission of all information without distracting the driver while driving. In addition, HDA2 provides high-resolution radar sensors to keep and safely advance in the lane thanks to its high-level driving assistant.

In other words, the IONIQ 5, which has semi-autonomous driving features, is equipped with an Intelligent Speed Limit Assist (ISLA) system that adjusts its speed to the legal limit. Thus, IONIQ 5 starts to make visual and auditory warnings to obey even if the driver does not obey the traffic rules. There's also High Beam Assist (HBA), which automatically switches the high beams on and off when driving at night to avoid dazzling oncoming drivers.

After the IONIQ 5, which is expected to achieve significant success in many markets where it is offered for sale, an electric sedan will be introduced very soon. In addition to the electric sedan model that comes with the name IONIQ 6, a large electric SUV will also be produced. With this SUV model called IONIQ 7, Hyundai will also increase the brand's claim in various segments.
