It has been observed that parents who are strong against uncertainties better manage qualified time and education processes during the quarantine period.
The third report of the research conducted by Boğaziçi University, Department of Elementary Education faculty member Mine Göl-Güven and her team, revealing the implications of the Covid-19 outbreak and the quarantine process on the lives of families with children, was published. Data collected from 19 parents at the end of March 15-June 1, known as the Covid-323 home stay process, were analyzed.
Covidien-19 Family research, which is different from Turkey's 39 provinces children 4-12 years of age from 323 parents showed involvement by answering the online questionnaire. Findings regarding the differences in their lives were shared.
According to the research, the ability to be resistant to uncertainties is related to the ability of parents to regulate their mood during the Covid-19 process.
In general, those who felt good continued to feel good during Covid-19 restrictions. In general, children with anxious and fearful moods were negatively evaluated by their parents in their feelings and behaviors during the quarantine period.
Parents were asked to evaluate themselves in terms of their overall emotional state. Parents made a similar assessment regarding the Covid-19 process. The findings showed that the participants who evaluated their emotional states positively did not have trouble regulating their emotions about Covid-19. Parents who defined their children as fearful and anxious in general made a negative evaluation of their children's feelings and behaviors during the restrictions. Parents who evaluated their emotional states negatively during the quarantine period stated that their children's feelings and behaviors were also problematic.
Satisfaction in relationships with spouse and children reflected
The nature of the relationship with the spouse brought the happiness experienced with the spouse. Likewise, the quality of the relationship with the child provided happiness with the child. In addition, a similar link was seen between relationships. The satisfaction of the participants in their relationships with their spouse and children resulted in expressing their happiness in these relationships. For example, it was observed that the happiness experienced with the spouse determines the quality of the relationship with the child.
Stating that they spend quality time with their children and organize educational activities, the parents highlighted the children's positive emotions and behavioral characteristics more in this process. Parents who preserved their emotional state in quarantine also positively evaluated the time and educational processes.
Parents who are strong against uncertainties also managed better quality time and education processes during the quarantine period. Children, who were generally defined as fearful and anxious, also experienced negative time spent with parents and educational processes during quarantine.
What methods did the children use to socialize?
In the study, it was found that as the age of the children increased, meeting with friends and teachers was more frequent. It has been observed that as children get older, socializing online with their friends decreases. A striking finding was the increase in the use of online gaming platforms with age, and a decrease in parental gaming and online socializing with friends.
Girls are more likely than boys to socialize online with relatives, learn by themselves and do housework; boys than girls did more non-educational activities on online gaming platforms and on screen.
Income level and habits were investigated
Relationships between habits and income levels were also examined within the scope of the research. Accordingly, it was observed that there were deviations in the sleep, nutrition and exercise patterns of the children of parents with lower income compared to the routine. As the income level of the family increased, it was determined that the children exercising regularly increased. It was observed that as the income level of the participants increased, they evaluated themselves better in the areas of sleep patterns, changes in income, physical health and psychological health.
