Mersin Metropolitan Municipal Council Meeting was held in the Congress and Exhibition Center under the presidency of Vahap Seçer at the February 1st meeting. Speaking at the meeting, President Seçer said that our Mersin Rail System tender will take place on February 18.
President Seçer stated that the Transportation Master Plan was made according to a population of 1 million 650 thousand before, but now 2 million 200 thousand people live in the city with Syrian guests. Stating that the Transportation Master Plan can be revised according to the current conditions in terms of Mersin metro, Seçer said that the first phase of the rail system tender has been completed. Seçer said, “You know, on the 18th, our tender has the second stage. Prequalification was over, the process was completed. The tender was on January 29th. As the administration, we postponed it to 18, 20 days. The reason for this was the difficulties experienced by local construction companies abroad, which will cooperate with financial institutions, especially due to the Christmas holidays. We have delayed 20 days to contribute to them and our Mersin Rail System tender will take place next week, February 18, ”he said.
Stating that they will carry out the 13.4-kilometer underground rail system operation from 500 meters west of Tulumba Junction to the Train Station without any disturbance, Seçer said that they will perform the part of approximately 7.5 kilometers up to the old Municipality Building of Mezitli with the cut-and-cover method. Seçer said, “It will be opened, underground tunnels will be built and closed. For this reason, traffic will be disrupted in certain areas for a certain period of time. We set the following as a target; "Until the construction of the subway starts, a vehicle that will travel from the Hal Junction from the east to the west direction on the east-west axis of Mersin will reach the Vatan Caddesi, Mezitli from Hal in about 10 minutes."
