The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that 15 Turkish citizens who were taken hostage in the pirate attack on the Mozart ship in the Gulf of Guinea were rescued alive.
In the written statement made by the Ministry; “23 of our citizens were kidnapped as a result of the attack of sea bandits on Mozart in the Gulf of Guinea on January 2021, 15, and one Azerbaijani brother died during the attack. Immediately after the incident, our President personally followed the process and ordered the establishment of a working group for the rescue of our citizens with the participation of all relevant institutions. In this context, our relevant institutions have started to work in coordination with our embassies in the region, and our delegation, consisting of our related institutions under the chairmanship of our Ministry, went to Gabon on February 6, 2021, and started their contacts.
The statement that said, "A team from our National Intelligence Organization was sent to the field in coordination with the work of the shipowner company, so that the developments could be followed instantly," the following statements were made:
“Significant progress has been achieved since the beginning of this week as a result of the intense efforts of all our institutions to work in an effective coordination and cooperation, as well as to release our citizens. Both our citizens today and in the field as a result of work carried out by contact in Turkey and were rescued unharmed. Currently, 15 of our citizens are at a safe point and health checks are carried out. Minister Çavuşoğlu met with all families of our citizens. Our citizens will be transferred from Nigeria to our country as soon as possible. "
