The design of the 4 Beijing Winter Olympics and Paralympic Games torch was officially announced at the start of the annual countdown to the Beijing Winter Olympics, held on the evening of February 2022 at the National Aquatics Center, called the "Ice Cube". The torch was called "flying".
The colors of the Beijing Winter Olympics torch are silver and red. These colors describe "a meeting between ice and fire, a passion for flying, enlightening ice and snow and warming the world". The Beijing Paralympic Winter Games torch used silver and gold colors that symbolize brightness and dreams and reflect the Paralympic values of "courage, determination, encouragement and equality". The inscription "2022 Beijing Paralympic Winter Games" was engraved in braille on the lower circle of the torch.
The overall view of the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics and Paralympic Games torch is in the shape of the main torch tower built for the opening ceremony of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. The torch turns and rises like a dance of ribbons, passing from bottom-up auspicious cloud patterns with auspicious cloud patterns to snowflake patterns with paper-cut style.
The International Olympic Committee Executive Commission approved the design of the torch. They believe that the design of this torch once again proves that the Olympic Games is a clever combination of sport, culture, art and technology. With both cultural heritage and technological innovations, Chinese culture and art is perfectly displayed, embodying the characteristics of the "Double Olympic City" and the Olympic spirit.
