Another important threshold was exceeded in the construction works of the Fahrettin Altay-Narlıdere metro line, run by the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality. In the construction, which reached a tunnel length of 10 meters, a meeting with the Martyrdom Station was achieved this morning.

While the works for the development of the light rail system, which is one of the most critical investments of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality in public transportation, continued without a breath, the Martyrdom Station was reached on the 7,2-kilometer metro line that will connect Fahrettin Altay and Narlıdere District Governorship. Line 4 tunnel, which previously connected Balçova, Çağdaş, Dokuz Eylül University Hospital, Faculty of Fine Arts and Narlıdere stations, met with the Martyrdom station in the morning, during the excavations carried out with 2 TBMs (tunnel boring machines) as the 1th stage of the İzmir Metro line.

74 percent of tunnel excavations have been completed

While the first TBM made an advance of 3.886 meters in the deep tunnel works that continue on two lines, one of which is the departure and the return, while the second TBM was commissioned later, the tunnel of 2182 meters was excavated. The total tunnel length excavated with tunnel boring machines reached 5895 meters. Thanks to the TBM, which separates the excavated stone and sand with a conveyor belt on the one hand, and on the other hand, places the concrete slabs of the tunnel, the possible traffic, social life and infrastructure problems that may occur during tunnel construction are minimized. In addition to deep tunnel digging with giant machines on the Fahrettin Altay-Narlıdere metro line, İzmir Metropolitan Municipality continues its excavations started with the New Austrian Tunneling Method (NATM), which is the classic tunneling method. The length of the tunnel excavated during these works reached 4678 meters. Thus, the total length of the tunnel opened with TBM and NATM methods reached 10 meters. 746 percent of the total tunnel excavations on the line have been completed.
