Akkuyu Nuclear Inc. Ş., it was deemed necessary to make a statement in order to inform the public correctly about the allegations and posts regarding the construction works of the Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant on social media and some media organizations.

The images in the first part of the video shared on the subject do not belong to the buildings and structures within the scope of the Akkuyu NPP facility. It is seen that these images belong to a part of the road and a special area in the Akkuyu NPP construction site. Traces of a large construction machine are visible on this concrete surface, which is not the foundation of any building. In addition, it is not possible for such machines to climb onto concrete floors and foundations.

In the following parts of the video, a part of the turbine building of the Akkuyu NPP Unit No 3, where cement is leveled, is displayed. The concrete floor, which acts as a carrier plate in the foundation of the building, undertakes the task of distributing the load coming from the building over a wide area. In addition, this concrete surface, which provides waterproofing against underground water for its foundation structure, creates a smoother floor for the assembly area and thus allows the iron carcasses made of rebar to be placed more precisely.

Concrete is not always used in the formation of the ground prepared for the foundation structure. The ground is sometimes made in the form of a layer of stone chips, gravel or sand instead of concrete. In this way, it is ensured that the iron carcass is mounted on it and a flat area is created for the foundation of the building. Any changes in the design parameters of the concrete floor, the stiffness values of the structure do not affect the stability of the building being built. The suitability of the ground for the construction of the buildings and structures of the nuclear power plant has been confirmed through a series of soil investigation studies.

All works in the Akkuyu NPP construction site are carried out in accordance with Turkish, Russian and international regulations regarding quality and safety, AKKUYU NÜKLEER A.Ş., contractor companies, independent audit organizations such as the French engineering group Assystem and the Turkish Nuclear Regulatory Authority (NDK). are carried out under continuous supervision.

Images of water coming out of the ground also show the usual water evacuation procedures during construction work. In cases where the ground water level is high and this water creates an obstacle for foundation pit formation or foundation concrete pouring works, a series of operations are carried out at the construction site to temporarily dry the ground. These processes continue until the waterproofing phase for the foundation structure and the groundwater level is reached. For this purpose, in the areas where the construction works are carried out, pump pits are opened in order to discharge the accumulated water with the help of pumps. The sections in the images and shown as water outlet from the ground belong exactly to these works. Gutters, pump pits, water collection wells and similar tools and equipment used for the purpose of lowering the water level are installed in such a way that they do not constitute an obstacle for the operation of work equipment and machinery and the construction and use of adjacent buildings. The main reason for the work carried out only during the construction phase is the construction of drainage systems at the Akkuyu NPP site. Thanks to this system, the underground water level will be lowered and rainwater will be removed from buildings and structures.
