Work continues at full speed on the Yusufeli Dam and HEPP Project, which will be the 275rd highest dam of its class in the world with a body height of 3 meters when completed. Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Dr. Bekir Pakdemirli and Minister of Environment and Urbanization Murat Kurum, Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Adil Karaosmanoğlu will go to Artvin on Saturday to inspect the construction works on site.
Minister of Agriculture and Forestry, Dr. Bekir Pakdemirli said that one of the most important investments of the Çoruh Valley Project, Yusufeli Dam, has reached a height of 271 meters.
Noting that Yusufeli Dam, which will be the third highest dam in the world among the Double Curvature Concrete Arch dams, will reach 3 meters from the foundation, Pakdemirli said:
Yusufeli Dam, which can store 2.13 billion cubic meters of water in its reservoir, will produce 558 billion 1 million kilowatt-hours of hydroelectric energy annually with its 888 megawatt power plant. With the energy to be produced at Yusufeli Dam and HEPP, which will contribute 1,5 billion liras to the national economy annually, the energy needs of approximately 2,5 million people will be met.
It will also increase the hydroelectric power generation of the dams located downstream of the Yusufeli Dam (dams that come after it according to the river flow direction). Thanks to the water stored in the dam, a total capacity increase of 100 MW will be achieved, including 43 MW at Deriner Dam, 17 MW at Borcka Dam and 160 MW at Muratlı Dam. ”
THE PROJECT WILL COST 19 BILLION LIRA
Stating that the project is planned to cost a total of 19 billion lira, Minister Pakdemirli said that in addition to the energy production of the Yusufeli Dam, the sediment to be brought by the Coruh River will significantly increase the operational life of the downstream dams and reduce the risk of flooding.
A RECORD SIGNED IN CONSTRUCTION WORKS
Stating that the works in the construction of the dam and HEPP are continuing at full speed, Pakdemirli said, "As of the starting date of the body concrete at the Yusufeli Dam, 30 percent of the body concrete was achieved in 4 million cubic meters in 96 months, a record was broken in this area."
THE NEW SETTLEMENT AREA OF THE DISTRICT WILL DOUBLE
Yusufeli District, which will be relocated due to the dam and HEPP, will have a more modern and exemplary new settlement compared to the past. The new residential area of the county, which currently has an area of 750 decares, will be 1535 decares in total. Thus, it will be a more prosperous and livable place.
On the other hand, within the scope of Yusufeli Dam and HEPP Project State-Provincial and Village road relocations; 69,2 km State-Provincial road and 36 km village road are being built. In the 69,2 km State-Provincial Highway project, 55,8 tunnels with a total length of 40 km and 4 bridges-viaducts with a total length of 21 km are being built.
