Prepared by the Ankara City Council, the "I'm Learning Sign Language Project" will be implemented in Ankara, in cooperation with the General Directorate of EGO. Ankara City Council Executive Board Chairman Halil İbrahim Yılmaz and the accompanying delegation visited EGO General Manager Nihat Alkaş and explained the project by drawing attention to the communication problems experienced by hearing-impaired citizens. Within the scope of the project, both drivers working in public transportation vehicles belonging to EGO and personnel working in rail systems will be given sign language training, and the people of Capital will learn sign language with videos to be shown on the screens on the vehicles.
Ankara City Council (AKK), which supports projects produced around a common mind with non-governmental organizations and all its stakeholders, continues its efforts to enable disabled citizens to participate effectively in social life.
AKK and the General Directorate of EGO will cooperate in the "I Learn Sign Language Project" prepared to draw attention to the problems that hearing impaired citizens experience while communicating and to minimize these problems.
SIGN LANGUAGE EDUCATION FOR CAPITAL PEOPLE FOR SOCIAL AWARENESS
AKK Executive Board Chairman Halil İbrahim Yılmaz gave information about the project to EGO General Manager Nihat Alkaş, whom he visited together with Ersan Petekkaya, Chairman of the Assembly for the Disabled, Gonca Ertuğrul, the Public Relations Officer and Pelin Aslan, the President of the International Deaf Federation.
Within the scope of the project, videos about sign language training will be shown on screens in ANKARAY and Metro, especially buses belonging to the General Directorate of EGO. In the videos prepared by expert trainers and translators, the sign language is introduced to citizens traveling on public transport, and alphabet and basic communication sözcüteachings will be provided.
"Don't get in the way, be aware!" The project will be held under the slogan, the creation of public awareness for the disabled in Turkey and the number of 3 million 500 thousand hearing is intended to draw attention to the communication problems experienced by people with disabilities.
FULL SUPPORT TO THE PROJECT FROM EGO
Explaining that the drivers and security officers working in ANKARAY, Metro and EGO buses will be given sign language training by expanding the scope of the project, Nihat Alkaş, General Manager of EGO, stated that they will provide all kinds of support with the goal of 'An Barrier-Free Capital' and made the following evaluations:

We are trying to serve the people of Ankara not only in the Assembly for the Disabled and the Bicycle Council, but also in many areas and sectors. The City Council carried out a project that will facilitate the lives of our hearing impaired citizens. We will do our best to ensure that our staff working in buses and rail systems communicate better with our hearing impaired citizens. Ultimately, we will work to achieve our goal of 'an barrier-free Ankara'. We will achieve this together by using all our capacity, power and technical means. "
EVERY VEHICLE WILL BE AN EDUCATION AMP
Stating that the project was developed with the aim of contributing to the reduction of the barriers in social life of hearing-impaired citizens, AKK Executive Board Chairman Halil İbrahim Yılmaz said, “Our Disabled Council has developed this project with the desire to create an awareness for our hearing-impaired citizens by turning the screens in public transportation vehicles into educational boards. We aim to turn each vehicle into an education lecture theater in order to make the time used in public transportation more valuable and to hear what we see or not. Our capital will be an example and other cities with our pioneering work done this before that in Turkey, "he said.
