Anchovy Avi Ban Has Been Extended Until February

The ban on commercial anchovy hunting, which was partially halted twice by the General Directorate of Fisheries and Fisheries of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, was extended until 7 February 2021.

As a result of the observations and inspections carried out by the General Directorate of Fisheries and Aquaculture and the monitoring studies carried out by the research institutions, the increase in the ratio of individuals below the legal catch length (9 cm) in the anchovy fishes and the very low meat yields, the Bosphorus and the Black Sea are large. Anchovy hunting with all kinds of hunting equipment was banned from 08 January 2021.

As a result of the research, examination and observations carried out in the region where the anchovy fishing restriction is applied and with many fishermen organizations and other stakeholders of the sector, a reassessment has been made regarding anchovy fishing.

According to this evaluation; Although an improvement has been observed in the anchovy population in our territorial waters, where restrictions were imposed on anchovy fishing between January 08, 2021 and January 28, 2021, it was observed that a large portion of it was still below the catchable minimum length and a limited increase in meat yield.

For this reason, in order to ensure sustainable anchovy fishing in the coming years and to protect anchovy stocks, the entire Bosphorus and the Black Sea from Kumköy Aslan Point (41 15 ′ 25.13 "N - 29 2 ′ 58.2" E) In our territorial waters up to the border, commercial anchovy hunting with all kinds of fishing gear has been stopped for 7 days until 2021:00.00 on February 10, XNUMX.

During this period, the anchovies in the restriction zone will be continuously monitored by our teams, and the rules introduced will be re-evaluated if new anchovy flocks of large individuals enter our territorial waters.

From February 7, when the restriction ends, until April 15, which is the end of the fishing season, our inspections and controls will continue uninterrupted, and anchovy fishing under 9 centimeters will not be allowed under any circumstances.

Apart from the region where hunting restrictions are imposed, anchovies that are legal in length and with sufficient meat yield can be hunted, especially in the Bulgarian border, İğneada offshore and Marmara.

Our Ministry will carry out the necessary inspections in our seas, at the points where the fish are taken to land, at wholesale and retail sales points, as always, and the fishing and sale of fish below the legal size limit will not be allowed.
