The "October 10 Monument and Memorial Place" project competition opened by the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality in memory of the 10 October Ankara Station massacre and those who lost their lives in this massacre has been concluded. The project, which was chosen as the first, puts 103 people who lost their lives in the massacre at its center with the theme of "walking to the light".

In the competition where 32 projects applied, the project prepared by the team consisting of landscape architect Sezgin Karaman, architect Baha Yurttaş and Faruk Makuloğlu came in first.
There will be 103 steel monuments
The project, which was chosen as the first in the result of a three-stage evaluation, aims to not forget October 10, to honor the memory of the individuals who lost their lives or survive, and to bring a place of remembrance, remembrance and remembrance to the city. The project to be implemented in the Asteğmen Besim Bey Park, located at the intersection of Atatürk and Liman Caddesi in Alsancak, aims to reproduce the area as a public space where citizens will come together, devoted to labor, democracy and peace.
The project, which includes 1 steel silhouettes with a thickness of 103 cm, puts 10 people who lost their lives in the 103 October massacre at its center. In the project where 103 people are divided according to their regions and ages, the size of the monuments gets longer as the age increases. A circle is formed at the end of the project, where monuments of different sizes are brought together according to the regions from which those who lost their lives came from. The circle symbolizing the world of the disappeared is considered as a circle of life. 103 steel monuments are pushed into action by visitors on 103 rails, each unique to them. In a single moment of the action, at 10.04, the hour of the massacre, the steel monuments merge and form a flaming silhouette. 103 light beams travel as light through the ground and these lights activate the large light in the middle on October 10th. This action is repeated every 10 October.

Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Tunç Soyer announced on October 10, 2019 that a monument and memorial area will be created to commemorate those who lost their lives in the massacre. Turkey was shaken by the bloody terrorist attack on October 10, 2015 at 10.04't.
