Protein, fiber and mineral foods should be consumed

Noting that the symptoms of Covid-19 and flu infection are similar, experts state that the risk of contracting Covid-19 should also be considered if there are signs of flu infection. Experts emphasize the importance of the foods to be consumed with fiber, high protein, and rich in minerals and antioxidants in order to have a healthy diet in this process.

Üsküdar University NPİSTANBUL Brain Hospital Internal Medicine Specialist Asst. Assoc. Dr. Ayhan Levent made recommendations regarding the symptoms of Covid - 19 and what to do against the epidemic.

Attention should be paid to influenza infection

Noting that the symptoms of Covid-19 and influenza are similar, Dr. Ayhan Levent continued his words as follows: “If the person has symptoms of flu, the risk of Covid-19 should be kept in mind and should be isolated in order not to infect the immediate environment. In this way, colleagues and people living together are protected. In home isolation, if possible, it is necessary to spend time in a room alone, to separate the sink to be used and to ventilate the room where they are located properly. Until the test is done, people with suspected illness should not leave the room without a mask. According to the recommendation of the Ministry of Health; If there are at least 2 of the symptoms of fever, cough, shortness of breath, muscle pain, headache, diarrhea, decrease in taste and smell, the person can be tested for the diagnosis of Covid-19. People with these complaints should go to the nearest health institution without wasting time "

Fish can be consumed 2 days a week against the virus

Reminding that there is no food that can prevent or treat coronavirus by itself, Levent said, “It has been proven that a healthy and balanced diet strengthens the immune system together with physical activity and regular sleep. The fact that the foods to be consumed are rich in protein, fiber, vitamins, minerals and antioxidants is of great importance in terms of a balanced diet. Vegetable and fruit intake should be prioritized, fish 2 days a week, eggs, cheese and dried legumes should be consumed every day if possible. In addition to these, we recommend ensuring adequate water consumption and using olive oil in daily nutrition ”.

Supplements should not be used without examination

Emphasizing that additional supplementary vitamins and minerals should not be taken without examination, Internal Medicine Specialist Dr. Ayhan Levent said, "If there are no blood tests performed in the last 6 months, blood analysis is requested from the family physician or internal medicine physician, and if there is a mineral or vitamin deficiency, vitamin and mineral supplements should be made by the physician at an appropriate dose and time."
