Biruni University Hospital Cardiology Specialist, who stated that the uncontrolled hypertension has increased as a result of the deterioration of nutrition, decrease in physical activity and discontinuation of drugs as a result of misinformation. Lecturer Emrah Özdemir gave important warnings to the errors with hypertension and hypertension risk.

Dr. In his statement, Emrah Özdemir stated that, when the studies related to coronavirus in our country and around the world are examined, deaths from Covid-19 are mostly over the age of 65 and hypertension is the most common additional disease in people who died.

HYPERTENSION DRUGS SHOULD NOT BE STOPPED

In this process, hypertension drugs should not be left without the knowledge of the physician and regular physician controls should not be neglected. Hypertension patients should strictly observe social distance, hygiene and use of masks in order to avoid Covid-19 infection, Hypertension patients, especially those over the age of 65 and with additional diseases (such as diabetes, heart failure, lung disease) should spend this period at home as much as possible.

Hypertension patients and individuals who are at risk for hypertension should pay attention to their diet, should not gain weight, avoid smoking and alcohol, should not use unnecessary pain medications, and should not stop using hypertension medications.

ATTENTION IF THESE SYMPTOMS

Hypertension may cause symptoms such as headache, nose bleeding, ringing in the ears, weakness, fatigue, frequent or less urination, and swelling in the legs. If there are complaints such as chest / back pain, shortness of breath, severe headache, dizziness, loss of balance, a doctor should be consulted.

HYPERTENSION FALL

Although the prevalence of hypertension increases with age and hypertension was known as an old age disease in the past, unfortunately, hypertension has started to be seen at a much earlier age as a result of irregular nutrition, lack of physical activity, obesity, intense smoking and alcohol use in recent years.

Hypertension risk factors; History of hypertension in the family, obesity (obesity), smoking, high salt in the diet, stress, race (African American, Slavic and Turkish people have a high hypertension rate), gender (hypertension is higher in women in our country), age, diabetes and hyperlipidemia. People with these risk factors should be more careful in terms of hypertension.

REGULAR AND CORRECT TENSION MEASUREMENT IS IMPORTANT

Hypertension; It can be defined as our blood pressure above 140/90 mmhg. If the blood pressure values are above 2/140 mmhg in the measurements made on at least 90 different days, it is called hypertension. There are certain rules for measuring blood pressure. First of all, measurements should be taken from both arms for the first time people to be measured. Generally, blood pressure is slightly high in the right arm. However, this difference in height does not exceed 2 mmhg (maximum 10 mmhg). If the difference in blood pressure in the two arms is higher, an underlying arteriosclerosis disease that may cause narrowing of the underlying arm vein or aortic vessel should be investigated. Blood pressure should always be measured from the high arm. Before measuring blood pressure, the patient should urinate, sit and rest for at least 15 minutes. Substances that affect blood pressure and heart rate such as cigarettes and coffee should not be drunk until at least 2 minutes before the measurement. Measurements should be made on an empty stomach before meals and the legs should not be crossed and talked while taking measurements. If digital measurement devices are to be used, those that measure from the arm should be preferred.

CHANGE OF THE FIRST RULE "LIFE STYLE" IN TREATMENT

When diagnosed with hypertension, the first thing to do is a lifestyle change. If the patients are over the ideal weight, it is recommended to return to their normal weight with an adequate and balanced diet program.

  • Salt consumption should be restricted
  • Fruit and vegetable consumption should be increased. Consumption of lemon, garlic, thyme and parsley, which are known to have blood pressure regulating effects, should be increased.
  • Avoid foods high in saturated fat such as margarine, butter and lard.
  • Oil especially olive oil should be used, solid oils should be avoided
  • Regular fish should be consumed to increase omega 3 intake.
  • Smoking and alcohol use should definitely be avoided
  •  A life away from stress should be lived
  • 5 days a week, half an hour of regular exercise

Hypertension can be treated without medication by adapting to changes in lifestyle. However, drug therapy is started for patients whose blood pressure values are still high despite all these measures. As a chronic disease, hypertension requires regular medical control throughout life. Hypertension is a disease that the doctor and the patient can treat by acting in harmony. However, it should not be forgotten that; Most of the time, simply not taking the medications prescribed by your doctor and not making the necessary lifestyle changes may not be sufficient alone in the treatment of hypertension.

MAY CAUSE SERIOUS HEALTH PROBLEMS IF NOT TREATED

Hypertension is one of the most important causes of atherosclerosis known as arteriosclerosis. If hypertension is not treated, it can cause heart attack, heart failure, stroke that may develop due to clot or cerebral hemorrhage, kidney diseases, aortic vascular dilation and ruptures, blockages in the leg vessels, visual disorders, memory problems (Alzheimer's disease) and sexual dysfunction.
