İzmir Metropolitan Municipality strengthens the sea leg of public transportation. After the Fethi Sekin Car Ferry, which was put into service in the past months, the Uğur Mumcu Car Ferry also came to Izmir Bay. The name of the ferry, built in Çeliktrans Shipyard in Tuzla, Istanbul, was placed in the popular vote organized by the Metropolitan. The ferry will be put into service in the İZDENİZ fleet before the New Year, after the necessary controls and tests are completed and the certification procedures are completed. The fleet currently includes 15 catamarans, four car ferries and a Bergama ferry. There are also five cruise ships leased through service procurement. With the inclusion of Uğur Mumcu, the number of car ferries will increase to five.

“Uğur Mumcu” became the fifth car ferry included in the İZDENİZ fleet. It is 98 meters tall and 15,21 meters wide. It can carry 51 vehicles, 12 bicycles and 10 motorcycles. It has a total capacity of 194 passengers, 128 in the closed passenger hall and 322 in the open passenger hall. On the starboard and port sides, there are two disabled lifts that provide access between the vehicle deck and the passenger deck, large windows offering a view of the bay in the closed passenger lounge, TV broadcasts, wireless internet and sockets for phone-computer charging, and two independent pet cages on the deck. On board, a baby care room, two men, two women and a disabled toilet, embossed warning and direction signs for visually impaired passengers, special parking spaces for disabled passengers, wheelchair parking spaces in the closed passenger hall and a playground for children aged 2-5 also available.

It also has a library

Passengers will be able to borrow two books for a period of 21 days at the library established by the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Libraries Branch Directorate. Readers will be able to leave the books they bought from the ferry on the ferry or in the book box at the pier 21 days later.
