Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu met with Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Bekir Pakdemirli in Ankara. After the meeting, in which İSKİ General Manager Raif Mermutlu and DSİ General Manager Kaya Yıldız were also present, and stated that he had requested the appointment on Melen Dam, İmamoğlu stated that the content of the meeting was the water policies of Istanbul within DSİ. İmamoğlu expressed what happened at the meeting with the following words:
“OUR AIM; MEETING INTO AN INTEGRATED WORK MODEL "
Saying that “Our aim is to have a very integrated working model for our ISKI institution, IMM, our Ministry and DSI,” Imamoglu said, “There are three decisions we have taken here. Someone; To collaborate on the master plan, especially through water plans, and to share the future vision by sharing the existing experience and knowledge of both parties. Our technical friends will work with a sustainable model in this regard. Our second compromise is; The work on the payment plan of IMM over some agreement with DSI, which has been ongoing from the past to the present due to the Melen agreement. "It is about the settlement commission regarding delayed and accumulated payments over the years, the clarification of the process and the initiation of a healthy payment plan."
"MELEN DAM WILL BE FINISHED IN FEBRUARY 2023"
Stressing that the third and main issue is the Melen Dam, İmamoğlu said, “After our visit in 2019, when we saw the cracks there, we said this: At that time, it was not included in the investment plan for its repairs or renovations. Then it was included in the investment plan. Its tender was held in February. As of June 2020, the construction site was delivered. Then I visited. We shared these processes with him. They also assured us that this place was tendered and that there would be no problems with its allowance. This made us happy. Apparently; Melen Dam will be finished in February 2023. When we look at the filling time, we talked about the fact that at the end of the same year, Istanbul residents will have a shape that both produces their own energy and meets their water capacity widely throughout the year. He conveyed this process to us. We thank the Minister for this matter ”.
"IT IS VERY IMPORTANT TO USE A COMMON LANGUAGE"
Stating that they want to avoid technical concerns in the next period, İmamoğlu drew attention to the importance of both institutions using a common language on issues such as Istanbul water policies and Melen. Emphasizing that it is important to inform the public with this common language to be established, İmamoğlu said, “We shared that a technical commission that will work in integration with the Melen process will be formed by us and we will inform DSi about this, and that our DSI and İSKi General Managers will also manage this process. We have achieved a tripartite agreement. It made me very happy to get up from the table with the common mind and decision. I sincerely thank the Minister and Distinguished General Managers. I hope it will end well. Because of drought, it's not just us that we are still Turkey, forcing the whole world. It will continue to push. "Such measures will be very beneficial for Istanbul, the pupil of our country," he said.
