Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM), which aims to redesign the squares of the city with the theme "Istanbul is Getting Its Public Spaces", organized a competition for Taksim, Bakırköy squares and Salacak coastal designs. With the design competition organized in cooperation with the Istanbul Planning Agency and the IMM Department of Cultural Heritage, the squares are aimed to be breathable, lively, peaceful and safe places.
A total of 233 teams participated in the Taksim Urban Design, Bakırköy Cumhuriyet Square and Salacak Urban Design competitions. 352 thousand 784 people voted in the public voting organized for each of the three competitions, which received great interest from Istanbulites.
The winners of the square design projects evaluated by the expert jury members will be held on 26 November by the President of IMM. Ekrem İmamoğluIt will be announced to the public at the ceremony.
