Şanlıurfa and Diyarbakır connections of Mersin Gaziantep High Speed Railway Project should be included in the investment program before 2023.
Şanlıurfa Chamber of Commerce and Industry İ.Halil Peltek and Diyarbakır Chamber of Commerce and Industry Chairman Mehmet Kaya made a joint statement regarding the Mersin - Gaziantep high-speed train project.
The following expressions were used in the statement. “Recently, it was reflected in the media that Mersin - Gaziantep high speed train project tender was held. Providing the railway connection of the port city of Mersin with the provinces of the region is very important in terms of improving the logistics infrastructure and increasing the quality of life in the region.
The provinces of Şanlıurfa and Diyarbakır in the Southeastern Anatolia Region stand out with their population, industrial production and service provision capacities. They are a regional center of attraction with their potentials and investment capacities in different sectors. With the investments they have received in recent years and the exports of goods and services to the Middle East market, they have a logistics center capacity at the regional level and in commercial relations with neighboring countries. Logistics infrastructures need to be strengthened in order to improve the current economic capacities of the provinces. For this, planning and implementation of railway investments that will facilitate their exports with port cities such as Mersin and neighboring countries such as Habur border gate are among the main public investments needed.
Providing Diyarbakır and Şanlıurfa connections of the high-speed rail project is also important in increasing the quality of life in these provinces. In terms of population, Şanlıurfa ranks 81th among 8 provinces and Diyarbakır 12th. This investment will support the development of social and cultural life in both densely populated cities.
Both of our provinces are located in the culture and belief tourism corridor and stand out with their cultural heritage values. The development of the high-speed train line for passenger transport is also an important investment for the culture and belief tourism corridors in the region, along with Diyarbakır and Şanlıurfa provinces, to attract more local and foreign tourists.
After the Mersin - Gaziantep high speed railway investment, it is very important to make Diyarbakır and Şanlıurfa connections, to benefit the whole region from the railway connection and to serve the whole region. The advantages of the current development level and transportation infrastructure of the region in terms of improving the investment environment in Diyarbakır and Şanlıurfa provinces should be taken into consideration.
In this respect, we demand that the Mersin - Gaziantep railway connection will be planned as soon as possible, based on the contributions it will make to the economic development, investment environment and quality of life of the provinces of the region, and to be included in the investment program before 2023.
