Bursa Ulu Mosque Appeared, In Row Inns

With the demolition of the Kızılay, Central Bank and İşkur buildings in the Historical Bazaar and Inns District Çarşıbaşı Urban Design project of the Bursa Metropolitan Municipality, which will mark the future of the city, the 600-year-old Grand Mosque began to appear on Cemal Nadir Street. As the demolitions continue, one day, historical inns will come to light.

The project, which started to be formed in Bursa, the first capital of the Ottoman Empire, in the 14th century and completed its development with the formation of inns, covered bazaars and bazaars in the 16th century, will reveal the Historical Bazaar and the Khans Area by clearing the surrounding buildings and continue without slowing down. In the project of Bursa Metropolitan Municipality, which is also supported by the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization, the demolition of the Red Crescent, İşkur and Central Bank buildings has been completed within the scope of the works, while the excavation removal works continue at full speed. The work done in less than 2 months has already added great value to the city. The 4-year-old Grand Mosque, which was built as the dedication of the Niğbolu Victory by the 5th sultan of the Ottoman Empire, Yıldırım Beyazıt, and accepted as the 600th largest temple of the Islamic world, has now begun to appear on Cemal Nadir Street. On the other hand, with the removal of the buildings that act as curtains between the Grand Mosque and Tophane and Hisar Region, the visual connection between the two historical regions has been provided.

After the demolitions are completed, the process related to the project competition initiated by the Metropolitan Municipality to determine the project to be implemented in the region continues. Stating that they hope for a project that will mark the history of Bursa with the race, Bursa Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Alinur Aktaş said, “Çarşıbaşı is the entrance to the Historical Bazaar and Inns Region, which is an open-air museum. There are 14 inns, 1 covered bazaar, 13 open bazaars, 7 covered bazaars, 11 covered bazaars, 4 market areas, 21 mosques, 177 buildings of civil architecture, 1 school and 3 tombs in the region. This area, which, together with the Sultan complexes and Cumalıkızık, made Bursa take place in the UNESCO World Heritage List, is a universal heritage that should be protected and transferred to future generations. Within the scope of the project, the 'post-built' buildings located on Cemal Nadir Street and in the region starting from Zafer Plaza and extending to Ulucami will be removed and the historical area will be exposed. In this way, both our city will be brought into a square and our historical identity will be brought to light. "The historical texture will be integrated with the city."
