Russian Railways (RJD) is the institution that operates Russia's state-owned railway services. RJD was established on September 18, 2003 to replace the Ministry of Railways and its duties include managing infrastructure and operating freight and passenger train services. Its headquarters is located in Moscow.
As of 2012, Russian Railways is one of the three largest transportation companies in the world.
