In August, the number of foreign visitors to Istanbul decreased by 71,8 percent in airline and 26,2 percent in seaways. Domestic tourists visiting accommodation facilities are 20,9 percent annually; foreign tourists decreased by 72,6 percent. Occupancy rate in accommodation facilities decreased by 67,8 percent annually to 25,1 percent. The average daily room price of the hotels was 13,2 Euros, down 93,2 percent.

3,2 million tourists in eight months
In the first three months of 2019, 3,1 million tourists came to Istanbul from abroad. In 2020, only 3,2 million tourists were reached in eight months. 13,8 percent of the tourists arrived in August. The number of tourists arriving in August decreased by 71,7 percent annually to 436 thousand. The top tourist sending countries were the Russian Federation (12,8 percent), Germany (10,6 percent) and the UK (8,8 percent).
In August, 433 thousand foreign visitors came by airline and 2 thousand 900 by sea. The number of visitors decreased 71,8 percent in airline and 26,2 percent in seaways.
4,2 million accommodations in total
In the first eight months of 2020, 4 million 200 thousand domestic and foreign tourists came to the accommodation facilities. In August, the number of tourists visiting accommodation facilities decreased by 72,6 percent annually. While the rate of foreign tourists staying in Istanbul in August 2019 was 72,2 percent, in August 2020 this rate decreased to 47,4 percent. Overnight stay decreased by 64,7 percent annually and became 1 million 25 thousand.
Accommodation facility occupancy rate decreased by 67,8 percent
The occupancy rate of accommodation facilities decreased by 67,8 percent annually to 25,1 percent. 13,1 percent of the occupancy was foreign and 12 percent was domestic visitors.
Average daily room rate 93,2 Euros
The average daily room price of the hotels decreased by 13,2 percent annually to 93,2 Euros. In the same period, the per-room income calculated over the total room decreased by 61,5 percent to 36,2 Euros.
