On Friday, 30.10.2020, at 14.51, a 6.6 magnitude earthquake occurred off the Aegean Sea Seferihisar. The distance of the earthquake, which occurred at a depth of 16,54 km to Seferihisar district of İzmir, which is the closest settlement unit, is 17,26 km. After the earthquake, a total of 35 aftershocks occurred, 4 of which were over 470 in magnitude.

According to the first information received from SAKOM, a total of 1 citizens lost their lives, one of them as a result of drowning. A total of 25 citizens were injured, 743 in İzmir, 5 in Manisa, 2 in Balıkesir and 54 in Aydın. 804 out of 17 buildings where search and rescue activities are carried out in İzmir have been completed; Work continues in the remaining 9 buildings.

FIELD SCANNING AND SEARCH AND RESCUE WORKS CONTINUE

4.995 personnel, 20 search and rescue dogs and 683 vehicles from AFAD, JAK, NGOs and municipalities were assigned for the ongoing search and rescue activities in the region.

After the earthquake felt throughout the Aegean Region, field scanning studies continue in all provinces affected by the earthquake, especially in İzmir. In addition, aerial scanning and image transfer studies are carried out by the Gendarmerie, Police and TSK with the support of JIKU, helicopters and UAVs.

After the earthquake, all Ministry and Provincial Disaster and Emergency Management Centers were on alert; Search and rescue personnel from 40 AFAD Provincial / Union Directorates were dispatched to the region. All AFAD provincial and union directorates throughout the country have been put on vigilance. Personnel and vehicle shipments are made with 7 cargo aircraft belonging to the General Staff. Search and rescue teams of JAK and non-governmental organizations were dispatched to the region. The Coast Guard Command participates in search and rescue operations with 116 personnel, 11 coast guard boats, 3 helicopters and 1 diving team.

ACCOMMODATION AND NUTRITION NEEDS ARE MET IN THE REGION

In order to meet the urgent need for shelter, 960 tents, 6 general purpose tents, 4500 blankets, 3672 beds, 3000 pillows and 3000 sheet sets were sent to the region by AFAD; 2.049 tents, 51 general purpose tents, 6.888 beds, 16.050 blankets and 2.657 kitchen sets were shipped by the Turkish Red Crescent. In addition, 112 personnel, 137 volunteers, 27 vehicles, 5 catering vehicles, 5 mobile kitchens and 64.345 supplies (catering and beverages) were sent to the region by the Turkish Red Crescent.

WORKING GROUPS CONTINUE ITS ACTIVITIES IN THE REGION

A total of 325 personnel, 95 from the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization and 420 from the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, were assigned for the damage assessment studies in the region. 95 personnel from the psychosocial working group started their work in the earthquake zone with 23 vehicles. In addition, 2 mobile social service vehicles have been sent to the region.

114.460 masks and 5.000 disinfectants were dispatched to the region to be distributed by the Red Crescent public health and psychosocial support teams.

260 personnel including 32 riot police and 292 traffic personnel from the security and traffic working group were directed to the scene. A total of 123 construction equipment and 115 personnel work within the scope of technical support and supply.

51 construction machinery, 35 service vehicles, 42 sprinklers and 210 personnel were assigned to participate in the works carried out by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry in the region. Food service is provided to 400 people at the Regional Directorate of Forestry.

112 vehicles and 232 personnel from UMKE and 832 Emergency Aid teams were assigned in the region. According to the information given by the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, there are power outages in 87 fields in total in İzmir, Muğla and Aydın provinces and service cuts in 73 fields, and teams are working to eliminate the interruptions. A total of 34 mobile base stations have been shipped to the region, and the installation of 4 required stations has been completed.

According to the information obtained from the Coast Guard Command, 9 boats sunk after the earthquake, 20 boats were rescued by the teams of the Coast Guard Command, and 21 boats were stranded. Rescue efforts are continuing by the Coast Guard Command.

TOTAL 8 MILLION TL EMERGENCY AID PAYMENT HAS BEEN SENT TO THE EARTHQUAKE ZONE

3.000.000 TL by AFAD to be used in the studies carried out in the region; 5.000.000 TL emergency aid allowance was sent by the Ministry of Family, Labor and Social Services.

According to Turkey Disaster Response Plan, search and rescue, health, in order to run without interruption of support work, the Interior Ministry Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD) in coordination with all the working groups, was activated by the 7 day 24 hour operation basis.

TO THE ATTENTION OF OUR CITIZENS!

Damaged structures in the disaster area should never be entered. Roads should be left empty for emergency vehicles. While leaving the houses after the earthquake, if there is no natural gas odor in the environment, natural gas and water valves and electrical switches should be turned off. Our citizens should not use their phones unless they need urgent assistance. Support should be given to infants, children, elderly and disabled people who may need assistance.
