The Military Museum is a complex of buildings with an 54.000 m² building built on an area of 18.600 m², located on Cumhuriyet Street in the Harbiye district of Istanbul. The Mekteb-i Harbiye building, which spreads over a wide area, was established in order to train officers for the Ottoman Empire and was built in 1862.
II. Built by Abdulhamid, the school building was used as the school until 1936 and as the Corps Headquarters until 1964. The southern part of the building served as an army house until the Harbiye Army House was built. In 1964, it was decided to use the main building as a military museum and in 1966 it was restored by Architect Prof. Dr. It was started by Nezih Eldem and finished in 1991. Since its inception, functional and spatial changes have occurred in the building, and the building has undergone many changes in terms of its interior and exterior until it was converted from school to museum.
The Harbiye Military Museum is located in the Mecidiyeköy neighborhood of Şişli district, within the borders of Istanbul. The museum is located on Valikonağı Avenue.
