The number of explosions and fires that took place in the industrial structure in Turkey had increased every year, fires causing loss of life and property. These investments, which are of great importance for the economy of the country, are severely damaged or completely destroyed by fires. According to the evaluations of experts, it is stated that the financial damage caused by large fire damages in the insurance sector is around 500 million TL each year.
Most fires and explosions take place in facilities close to living areas in metropolitan cities, especially in Istanbul. This situation causes damage to the surrounding structures and increases the loss of life and property.
Pointing out that it is possible to reduce the fire risk and damages in industrial facilities with the precautions to be taken, Fethi Hinginar, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Turkish Ytong, stated that flammable materials are used in these structures and that insurance companies should be more conscious about this issue. Hinginar called on insurance companies to support companies that produce fire-resistant materials in the building sector, and to encourage factories to use these materials.
Regulation on the Protection of Buildings from Fire should be applied correctly
Fethi Hinginar said, “Factories are the lifeblood of our economy and local development. Although it is not possible to prevent fires 100%, it is possible to prepare industrial buildings for fire, to control the fire before it grows, to reduce the losses it will cause and to shorten the restart of production. Regulations on the Protection of buildings in force in Turkey Fire, fire precautions will be taken in the way in which industrial plants and explains in detail the characteristics of the materials to be used, but is experiencing delays in implementing the regulations. Steps should be taken to inspect and encourage applications. "
Insurance premium should drop in fire resistant buildings
Fethi Hinginar also stated that he believes that the companies in the insurance sector assuming an active role in this regard will improve the existing system and continued as follows:
“In our country, it is still not compulsory to insure the factories, as in European countries, it may be mandatory. Insurance companies can determine the fire policy criteria by taking the Fire Regulation conditions as a guide. Thus, it can be checked what measures to be taken in industrial facilities and whether they are applied correctly. Correct material selection and applications significantly reduce the risk of fire and possible damage. Rewarding fire resistant structures with lower insurance premiums improves the system. This is for both insurers and policyholders. kazanIt is a trivial situation.”
Fireproof building materials should provide a premium advantage
“We see that flammable building and insulation materials are used on the roofs and facades of burning factories. These materials, which have an easy flammability class, cause fires to spread in a short time, affecting the entire facility and even spreading to surrounding structures. Whereas, the buildings should be designed and built with "fire-resistant" non-combustible building materials and must be of a nature that prevents the spread of flames and smoke by preserving their integrity in case of a possible fire.
We, as Ytong, produce A1 class fireproof roof, wall and floor panels. We provide secure wall and roof solutions that prevent fire progress and spread in large-scale buildings such as industrial facilities and logistics structures. We cooperate with academicians and non-governmental organizations working in this field. We raise the awareness of architects and engineers, investors, and share our solutions. We expect the insurance industry to provide insurance premium advantages to products and applications such as Ytong, which provides a comprehensive fire protection concept to industrial buildings.
