The Ministry of National Education has prepared a comprehensive package on the on-the-job and professional development training of its teachers, who have an important place in ensuring the sustainability of the steps taken in the last two years in vocational and technical secondary education and following up-to-date developments in professional fields.

Within the scope of the training package, 2019 thousand workshop and laboratory teachers received on-the-job and professional development training in 18, while this number reached 25 in January-August this year. Thus, approximately 26 percent of the field and workshop teachers working in vocational education received on-the-job and professional development training in about two years. It is aimed that 85 percent of vocational teachers will receive professional development training by the end of the year. Deputy Minister of National Education Mahmut Özer, in his statement on the subject, said that they achieved significant success in the practice of supporting the education of field teachers, which is a new model in vocational and technical Anatolian high schools.

"A 2018-fold increase has been achieved in professional development trainings compared to 10,6"

Özer stated that they achieved a 2019-fold increase in the number of teachers who received on-the-job and professional development training for 7,5, with the newly signed cooperation protocols, compared to the previous year, and continued as follows: In 2019, 2019 thousand teachers received training within the scope of the training package we started. Thanks to this, the number of teachers receiving training increased by 18 times compared to 2018. This year we continued the same training package steadily. In vocational and technical Anatolian high schools, the on-the-job and professional development training of 7,5 workshop and laboratory course teachers was completed with the trainings in the January-August period. Thus, according to the training planning we started in 25, we provided on-the-job and professional development training services to 26 percent of our field and workshop teachers in vocational education, and we achieved a 2019-fold increase in on-the-job and professional development training of teachers compared to 85. The number of teachers who receive on-the-job and professional development training will reach 2018 thousand by the end of the year, and 10,6 percent of our field and workshop teachers will complete their on-the-job and professional development training within the scope of the training package.

Stating that the training schedule is progressing as planned, Özer underlined that this training will be given to all vocational and technical field and workshop teachers in two years. Özer stated that, due to the new type of coronavirus (Kovid-19) epidemic, they also used the distance education option in professional development training in April.

"We crossed a historical threshold in teacher education"

Expressing that they continue to reap the fruits of the strong cooperation they have established with the sectors in every field, Özer said: “These collaborations made a significant contribution to the completion of the on-the-job and professional development training of our teachers. In a short time like two years, we passed a historical threshold in teacher education. Until the end of 2020, there will be no teachers left in our vocational high schools who have not received on-the-job and professional development training. Thus, our vocational and technical education will be further strengthened. I would like to thank our Vocational and Technical Education General Directorate, my colleagues, sector representatives and teachers who contributed to this process. "
