The Kiev City Council agreed on the terms of obtaining a 50 million euro loan from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development for the purchase of 50 new metro cars.
“Soon 50 brand new wagons will start operating on the metro,” said Viktor Braginskiy, director of the "Kiev Metro". We are definitely updating it with new and comfortable wagons. Kyiv City Council finally gave a guarantee to the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development to sign the agreement. The project is designed for 50 million euros. " he wrote.
At the same time, Braginskiy added that the new wagons are much better than those currently used by the metro: they will have a higher speed development capacity with less electricity consumption.
According to the head of the Kiev metro, over the past few years the Kiev Metro modernized 185 wagons. This accounts for 22,5% of the entire fleet, or 34% of the wagons used every day during peak hours.
On March 26, 2020, the Executive Board of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development approved the allocation of 50 million euros for the purchase of wagons for use in the Kiev metro.
