New railway line of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region is completed

The new 420-kilometer railway line connects to another line in the north. Thus, a significant part of a circular rail network to be located in the northern part of Xinjiang has been completed.


A new railway line was completed and opened for use in the Xinjiang Autonomous Uighur Region of Northeast China. Workers completed the construction of the Altay-Fuyun section of the Afuzhun (Altay-Fuyun-Zhundong) railway by laying the last part of the railway on a bridge in Fuyun district on Thursday, July 2nd.

The new 420-kilometer railway line connects to another line in the north. Thus, a significant part of a circular rail network to be located in the northern part of Xinjiang has been completed.

China Railway First Group Co. Its manager, Qiao Jianmin, announced that the Afuzhun railway line reduced the train line distance between Altay and the capital of the region, Urumqi, from 760 kilometers to 640 kilometers, as well as shortening the journey time by two hours. Qiao added that the new railway line will also contribute to local transportation and tourism. The Afuzhun line is planned to be put into service as of August 30.
