Number of Tourists Coming to Istanbul Decreased 99,9 Percent Compared to the Previous Year

While 269 foreign visitors came from Sabiha Gökçen Airport in May, the airport that received the most visitors was Istanbul Atatürk Airport with 46 people. Haydarpaşa, on the other hand, hosted 366 of 79 foreign visitors who came to Istanbul by sea in May, and was the port that received the most visitors.

In May 2020, the number of arrivals in accommodation facilities in Istanbul decreased by 88,3 percent compared to the same month of the previous year and by 24,7 percent compared to the previous month, reaching 110 thousand 675. In May 2019, the rate of foreign tourists staying in Istanbul fell to 48 percent in May 2020. In May 2020, hotel occupancy rate decreased by 86 percent compared to the same period of the previous year and reached 6,5 percent in Istanbul. Foreign visitors made up 2,3 percent of the occupancy, while domestic visitors made up 4,2 percent. Looking at the average length of stay in accommodation facilities in May; The average length of stay is determined as 2,6 days for accommodation facilities certified by the Ministry, while it is 2,1 days for the accommodation facilities certified by the municipality.

13 THOUSAND CITIZENS ENTERED ISTANBUL

Compared to the same month of the previous year, there was a 56 percent decrease in domestic and 23 percent in international flights. In June, Atatürk Airport became the airport with the highest freight traffic with 68 thousand 23 tons.
