Expressing that this project, which still serves as the oldest irrigation of the country, could not be continued properly in the following years, Erdogan said that the Konya Plain Project constituted the backbone of the KOP and transferring some of the waters pouring from the Göksu Basin to the Mediterranean via the Taurus Mountains. told.

Explaining that they opened the Bağbaşı Dam, where water will be kept for this purpose, in 2012, the Blue Tunnel, whose length is 17 kilometers, the diameter of the tunnel is 4,2 meters, and the water flow rate of 36 cubic meters per second, was opened in 2015, after the Blue Tunnel's Urfa tunnels He said it was the second longest irrigation tunnel. Stating that this project is also aimed at meeting the drinking water needs of the cities, Erdoğan continued as follows:

“The first three sections we opened are only one part of many works within the scope of Konya Plain Irrigation. When the other parts of the project are completed, the size of our land that we will meet with water in Konya will reach 11 million decares. We also transform the existing conventional system irrigation networks into closed systems in order to increase efficiency and save water. The contribution of only Bağbaşı Dam to our economy in the last 5 years has been 2,5 billion liras. We continue to implement storage, dam, pond, underground irrigation, drinking water, energy projects in our other provinces under the Konya Plain Project, Niğde, Aksaray, Karaman, Kırşehir, Nevşehir, Yozgat and Kırıkkale. In addition to Konya, we aim to irrigate 15,5 million decares of land in other provinces. Together with the energy, the annual contribution of the production in this region to our country will reach 21 billion liras.
