Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) organized a technical trip to Mecidiyeköy-Mahmutbey metro line, which is planned to be opened soon, together with disabled citizens. On the trip accompanied by the authorities, a group of 20 people with disabilities examined the subway line for accessibility and independent use. The trip between Kazımkarabekir and Kağıthane stations ended with an evaluation meeting. The notes of the meeting will be turned into a booklet in order to set an example for future projects.
IMM examined the M7 Mecidiyeköy-Mahmutbey line, which is planned to be opened in a few months, with the disabled citizens before the official opening. To a group of 20 people with disabilities, including athletes and IMM staff; İBB Rail Systems Department Head Assoc. Dr. Pelin Alpkökin, İBB Rail System Projects Manager Serap Timur, İBB European Side Rail System Assistant Manager Nebahat Ömeroğlu Metro Istanbul General Manager Özgür Soy, Metro Istanbul Deputy General Manager Fatih Gültekin and IMM and Contractor company officials. Post-trip evaluation meeting was held. The notes of the meeting, which will be turned into a booklet, are intended to be an example for future projects.
MEASURE BY RECOMMENDATIONS
Pelin Alpkökin, Head of IMM Rail Systems Department, said that the technical trip to the metro line will be repeated in the following line works. Alpkökin expressed the purpose of the trip with the following words:
“Our aim is to see the eyes of our disabled citizens before opening our new lines and to take all the suggestions and warnings they will tell us and to do everything we can. That's why we visited two stations with disabled citizens today. We listened to their suggestions. ”
USER EXPERIENCE
Indicating that the metro line was built according to the disabled standards, İBB Metro AŞ General Manager Özgür Soy drew attention to the user experience. Soy said that the organized tour will prevent some difficulties before the metro line opens.
We wanted to organize this day so that citizens with disabilities can experience the metro line. If there are deficiencies in the eyes of the user, let us tell that we can complete those deficiencies without opening the line. ''

İBB Accessibility Applications Consultant Adem Kuyumcu, regarding the technical trip, said, “We have experienced how we can use the rail systems with the visually impaired, orthopedically disabled, hearing impaired and autistic individuals. We have reported any problems, if any. We wanted to act immediately for a solution, '' he said. Berna Tulumcu, one of the participants of the technical trip between Kazımkarabekir and Kağıthane stations, said, “When the door is opened, the front wheel of our chair can be attached due to the difference in elevation. They said they would do it. ''
