Izmir Metropolitan Municipality pressed the button to make the existing Bus Station in Bornova Işıkkent the Main Transfer Center. The first evaluation process started in the architectural project competition held in two stages.

Izmir Metropolitan Municipality will transform the Izmir Bus Terminal, where metro and high-speed train lines will extend, into the Izmir Main Transfer Center. 74 participants applied to the architectural project competition organized for this purpose and announced in February. For the first evaluation process, which will continue for three days, the jury committee is the General Secretary of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality. With the participation of Buğra Gökçe, Kültürpark gathered in Hall No 1.

The jury will choose the most suitable projects in the first stage of the competition, which is opened within the scope of planning, which envisages a new main transfer center, and the second stage will be held in September. The jury will meet once again and announce the winners. Then the preparation of the application project will begin. In the colloquium, which will be held after the second stage, all the projects participating in the competition will be exhibited.

Emphasizing that İzmir has always been a very important attraction point in terms of transportation with its historical trade identity, İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Tunç Soyer, “Bus terminal, passenger port and airport; are the gates of a city to its surroundings and to the world. In this context, we are working on modernizing Izmir's intercity transportation opportunities in line with the expanding service area and increasing population. We prioritize access to terminals, ports and airports from anywhere in the city.”

Soyer: It will become a symbol

Noting that one of the new main transfer centers in the Izmir Transportation Master Plan, which will provide multiple transportation integration, will be built in place of the existing Bus Station, President Soyer gave the following information: The fact that it will be strengthened with Izmir High Speed ​​Train (YHT) lines has revealed the need for renewal. The Main Transfer Center, which will emerge as a result of the competition and will be one of the eight planned centers; It will constitute an important example that will introduce our city and our country to the world as a contemporary symbol in the integration of İzmir with its environment and region. ”

Izmir Bus Terminal, owned by Izmir Metropolitan Municipality, was built with the Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) model and was put into operation in 1998. The operating time will expire in 2023. In the jury of the architectural project competition that will shed light on the Main Transfer Center; Professor Dr. Haluk Gerçek, Tülin Hadi, Dürrin Süer, Mehmet Murat Uluğ and Boğaçhan Dündaralp. In the Advisory Jury, İzmir Metropolitan Municipality (İZBB) Secretary General Dr. Buğra Gökçe, İZBB Deputy Secretary General Eser Atak, İZBB Transportation Department Head Mert Yaygel, Koray Velibeyoğlu, Halil İbrahim Alpaslan.
