In Northwest China, the electronic ticketing system is being started on the Qinghai-Tibet connection, the world's highest altitude railway line.

Using this electronic ticket, which does not require passengers to buy a paper ticket for boarding trains, China Railway Qinghai-Tibet Grup Co. Ltd. followed by an application previously made by four stations in the same line.

The system will also be implemented on the Lhassa-Xigaze section, the first extension of the Qinghai-Tibet railway. Pursuant to the electronic ticket application, passengers will be checked in the stations with their ID cards and face recognition system. In this way, the waiting time will be reduced and the risk of losing paper tickets will be eliminated.

The electronic ticketing system was previously applied in high-speed train stations in Hainan Island province in November 2018. On the other hand, since 29th of April last year, it was put into practice to cover the intercity high-speed trains throughout the mainland of China.

The Qinghai-Tibet line, the highest altitude railway line in the world, built on the Qinghai-Tibet plateau, opened in 2006.
