Stating that the tugs are planned to be completed in 14-16 months, Karaismailoğlu said that he would later be used in ship rescue, hibernation, escort, tugboat and fire fighting services.
Minister Karaismailoğlu, emphasizing that the tugboats, the first source of which will be sourced today, will support the efforts to ensure life and property safety at the highest level by following the sea traffic, which is one of the main activities of the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure.
“We have established ship tracking and control systems in order to increase navigation, life, property and environmental safety and maritime safety on our coasts. In addition, the Ship Traffic Management System (GTYS), which consists of the Ship Traffic Management Center (GTYM) components established in Ankara, was established on 14 May 2019. On the other hand, the System for Identification and Monitoring of Distances from a Long Distance (LRIT) System was established in 2009 and all ships arriving at our ports are controlled from a distance of 1000 nautical miles. With this system, Turkish flagged ships are tracked wherever they are in the world. With the National Automatic Identification System (OTS) in Ankara, ships navigating within the Turkish Search and Rescue Area are instantly monitored. The National Maritime Safety and Emergency Response Center, which we established in Tekirdağ in 2019 by our Ministry, also works successfully. ”
