In the first 4 months of the year, 93 thousand tons of plastic packaging waste was collected by the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization, and approximately 100 million liras were brought into the economy.

Plastic waste collected by companies licensed by the Ministry is recycled and used in the production of plastic household goods, toys and textile products.

Recycling 5 ton of plastic wastes consisting of 1 different types of polyethylene and polycarbonate, polyethylene and polyamide, polyvinylchloride, polypropylene and polystyrene can save 5 thousand 774 kilowatt hours of energy and 80 percent energy.

Last year, the Ministry collected 230 thousand tons of plastic packaging waste from residences, sites, business centers and public areas, and 2020 thousand tons of plastic packaging in the first 4 months of 93.

100 thousand tons of 93 thousand tons of plastic waste with an economic value of about 45 million liras, plastic bags, beverage bottles, cleaning and cosmetic product bottles.

PLASTIC PACKAGING WASTE RECYCLING CAPACITY HAS INCREASED 6 FLOORS

With the development of waste collection awareness throughout the country with the introduction of Zero Waste Project, promotional films, public spots, legislative works, awareness projects, the plastic packaging waste recycling capacity has increased to around 100 thousand tons in the last 10 years.

With this increase, plastic raw materials obtained from plastic wastes were used in the production of plastic packaging, household goods, toys and textile products domestically, as well as significant exports.

In addition to the pricing of disposable plastic bags, which were initiated to prevent plastic waste, the Ministry plans to start depositing applications for disposable plastic beverage bottles by 2021.

In the Zero Waste Project initiated by the Ministry under the auspices of Emine Erdogan, the wife of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the target of 2023 was determined as 35 percent of the total waste in the country and 55 percent of the total recycling rate of plastic packaging waste.
