In Spain, the Supreme Court launched an investigation into the high-speed train contract in Saudi Arabia about former Spanish King Juan Carlos.

In a statement from the prosecutor's office on Monday, it will be investigated whether the ex-king, who left the throne to his son Felipe in 2014, would be included in the investigation because of his actions after losing his immunity.

According to Euronews, the statement said, "The investigation is fully focused on detecting or differentiating the punishment of the verbs that took place after June 2014".

It was announced that the investigation of the Supreme Court was derived from another case against the king conducted by the country's anti-corruption prosecutor. The lawsuit was filed in 2011 regarding the second phase of the high-speed train project that will connect the cities of Mecca and Medina in Saudi Arabia. Part of the tender for the high-speed train line was awarded to Spanish companies.
