Built by the General Directorate of State Hydraulic Works (DSI) of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, Kars Dam, one of Kars' biggest public investments, is a subsidiary of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and a Minister for Agriculture and Forestry. It was put into service with the personal participation of Bekir Pakdemirli from the dam.

WE MADE 70X OF THE NUMBER OF DAMS MADE IN THE FIRST 2 YEARS OF THE REPUBLIC IN 18 YEARS

There are such mega projects in these dams; Deriner Dam, which is the highest dam of our country with a height of 249 meters, Ermenek Dam, which is the 218nd highest dam of our country with a height of 2 meters, the dream of the late Adnan Menderes, Çine Adnan Menderes Dam, Akköprü Dam, the highest dam of the Aegean Region. Of course, in the last 1 month, Ilısu Professor Doctor Veysel Eroğlu Dam, which is the vision project of our country, which we started to open and will open soon, and the great progress we have made by pouring 3 million m3 of concrete in our Yusufeli Dam. In all of these; you have the labor of our nation, the power of our state and your leadership! DOMESTIC CAPITAL HIGHLIGHTS
Referring to the importance of the project for the region, Minister Pakdemirli said, “Kars Dam and Irrigations are the most important, biggest and long-awaited agricultural irrigation project of our region. Kars Dam built on Kars Stream; It is 56 meters high from the foundation and it is a filling type dam with a body volume of 1 million m3. "Materials and equipment produced with 95% domestic capital were used in the construction of all units of the dam."
7 THOUSAND 250 PEOPLE WORK AND CO. OPPORTUNITIES
Stating that the water to be stored in the Kars Dam and the agricultural lands of 44 villages in the Kars and Digor plains will be irrigated by the attractive piped system, Minister Pakdemirli said, “There will be no electricity costs for our farmers, since no energy will be used in irrigation. Thus, we will get more yield from the fertile lands of Kars. Also; 10 million kilowatt-hours of energy will be produced annually from Kars Dam. Again within the scope of the project, 30% of land consolidation was carried out in the area covering 40 villages. When Kars Dam is fully operational; In addition to the irrigation and energy benefits it will provide, 7 thousand 250 people will be provided with work and love. With this Dam; barley, wheat and forage crops will be cultivated. Adequate supply of roughage, the most important need in the region, will be provided. With the reduction of input costs, a significant contribution will be made to the development of cattle. I hope the face of this region will be even more beautiful with the Kars Dam. With this dam, our citizens of Kars will have a new, green and afforested living space. It will be intertwined with nature, breathe, walk, fish. ”
KARS DAM
With the water to be stored in the reservoir of Kars Dam, a total of 260 thousand 30 decares of agricultural land, belonging to 215 villages, including 750 thousand 44 decares in Kars Plain, 475 thousand 780 decares in Digor plain, will reach the water.
With the completion of the dam, irrigation and energy facilities that cost 300 million lira, it will cover its cost in almost a year. Thus, irrigation benefits of 1 million TL will be obtained at 2020 prices.
Agricultural employment opportunities will be provided to 7 thousand 250 people.
The dam will also generate 2,24 million kWh of energy annually with the Skirt power plant with an installed power of 10 MW. An annual total of approximately 2,8 million lira will contribute to our economy, including 300 million lira of energy.
