In his speech, President Soyer stated that global problems such as coronavirus epidemic, global warming and loss of biodiversity threaten humanity and the world, and that sustainable urbanization is the most important global application area to combat these limitless threats. Pointing out the importance of cities reaching their potential as actors of both regional and sustainable development, Soyer said, “My hometown Izmir is a historical and important port city on the shores of the Mediterranean. It has always been at the intersection of sea and roads. Its connection and interaction with different cities and people of the world throughout history has made İzmir a rich city. The lesson we draw from the experiences of İzmir is that for a better and brighter future, cities should increase their international cooperation. ” Soyer concluded his words: “Sustainable urbanization is vital for our world and can only be achieved by establishing more effective international collaborations.
