The decision regulating free use of public transport services has been amended. According to the amendment, the gendarmerie and coast guard personnel will also benefit from public transportation services free of charge.

Who can benefit from public transportation services free of charge is determined by Decision No. 2002/3654. The relevant article of the decision is as follows:

“Education and training services class personnel, safety services class personnel, postmen and distributors and press ID card holders working within the body of the General Directorate of Turkish Postal and Telegraph Organization, limited to the use of public transportation services carried out by the municipalities and their unions, institutions and enterprises. The personnel working in the police station are exempt from the provision of the first paragraph of Article 08 of the Law No. 01 of 2002/4736/1 until a new regulation is made in this regard. "

This decision has been changed as of 9 May 2020. According to the decision published in the Official Gazette; those working in the gendarmerie services class and coast guard services class will also be able to benefit from public transportation services free of charge. However, the implementation will be limited only for public transport services provided by the municipalities. Therefore, the application does not include Başkentray, Marmaray and Izban flights.
